KCISD Mask Mandate Information

April 21, 2021

Dear Kirbyville CISD Parents, Students and Staff,

Governor Abbott rescinded the state mandate to wear masks beginning Wednesday, March 10.  The Texas Education Agency (TEA) maintains that masks remain mandatory unless a District’s Board of Trustees vote to remove the requirement.

Tuesday night, the Kirbyville CISD Board voted to remove the mask mandate for teachers and students, effective April 26. There was extensive discussion and thought put into this decision by the board and administration. Among things considered were the low incident of COVID-19 cases in our schools and community, the increased access to vaccines, and KCISD’s continued commitment to maintaining health and safety protocols. Many facets of the school process were considered before the vote was taken.  The following decisions were made:

  • Masks are strongly recommended, but not required for KCISD students.
  • Masks are also strongly recommended, but not required for Kirbyville CISD staff.
  • The district will continue to monitor data associated with Covid-19 cases and quarantines and make necessary adjustments as allowed by policy.
  • The cleaning protocol that was in effect when we returned to school will continue to take place at all campuses.
  • Students and staff remain subject to the procedures associated with possible quarantine due to close contact.
  • Students and staff will still need to be screened for symptoms prior to entry into any KCISD facilities or buses.
  • KCISD will still offer free COVID-19 rapid tests to our students and our staff.

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we navigate the many challenges associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sincerely,

Georgia Sayers

Superintendent

Kirbyville Consolidated Independent School District
